Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s divorce case has taken an unexpected turn due to an intriguing connection involving their judge. Judge Bradley S. Phillips is overseeing the high-profile divorce, but his ties to both Lopez’s ex-fiancé, Alex Rodriguez, and Affleck are raising eyebrows.

Phillips’ son-in-law, Strand Conover, is a notable agent at WME, the talent agency representing both Affleck and Rodriguez. Conover is Affleck’s agent and also handles brand partnerships for Rodriguez. This link to both parties could complicate matters, but Judge Phillips has assured that it will not affect his impartiality. In court documents obtained by TMZ, Phillips confirmed that his family connection does not pose a conflict of interest. He emphasized that although Conover knows Lopez and has had business dealings with her in the past, he does not represent her in any capacity.

Judge Phillips has pledged to be fair and unbiased throughout the divorce proceedings. He has also stated that he has not discussed the case with his son-in-law and will keep details of the divorce confidential.

Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on August 20, which coincidentally was the anniversary of their second wedding. The timing seemed intentional, possibly to add emotional weight to the situation. Lopez cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and noted that they had been separated since April 26, 2024. This date is significant as it suggests that the couple had issues long before the public became aware of their troubles in May.

Sources close to the couple have indicated that Affleck’s erratic behavior and the tension it caused were major factors in their decision to part ways. Insiders revealed that Lopez had devoted significant effort to making Affleck happy, but his mood swings and overall negativity created a strain on their relationship.

Lopez and Affleck’s relationship had been a high-profile saga. They first dated in 2002 after meeting on the set of their film “Gigli.” Their initial engagement in 2003 was called off just days before the wedding. They broke up in early 2004, and Lopez subsequently started dating Alex Rodriguez.

In the wake of her split from Rodriguez, Affleck was quickly seen at Lopez’s Los Angeles home, sparking their reconciliation. Their renewed relationship and marriage were seen as a second chance at love, following their earlier split.

As the legal proceedings continue, Judge Phillips is committed to maintaining fairness despite the personal connections that might seem to complicate the case.
